Coffee and cream, yin and yang, a girl and her bicycle: some things are just meant to be together. That’s why we’re so excited to announce our partnership with Kálos Skin in support of the 1000 Bikes Campaign and our recent bike ceremonies where 66 girls received bikes!

This is a story of vulnerability and prevention. Sometimes children are lucky and come into the care of agencies and those working on keeping children safe. Raksmey is one of these. She was taken into care at a confidential shelter due to the fact her main caregivers were absent and when her mother came back into the picture, she planned to take her out of school and send her to work in Thailand--with all the vulnerabilities and dangers that come with that.

Four months after installing a pump well for villagers in Tbeng Pork Village, we went back for a visit and to follow up. We spoke to Thong who shared with us the impact the well has had on her and her family.

Srey Hai is a student in 12th grade under support from the Lotus Outreach International Girls Access to Education program (GATE) at Phnom Penh. Hai is full of enthusiasm and determination. We recently sat down with her and her 65-year-old Grandmother, Dysophal. Theirs is a story of immense courage and sacrifice.

Meet Sopheak. Sopheak is from Nokor Krao Village, Kouk Chork Commune, Siem Reap District, Siem Reap Province. She lives with her family in a small house with palm leaves for walls and a roof made of tin. At 12 years old, she is the first daughter in the family of two children. She is studying in sixth grade, her younger sister is 6 and in first grade. Her father (36) works as temple construction worker and her mother (30) as a cleaner at a private company. Both parents are illiterate.

In May, we took our CATALYST scholars on a study visit where they were given leadership training. One month before the trip, we asked all 44 CATALYST scholars who wished to be leaders during the study visit to nominate themselves for a vote. Nine ran for the election and seven students were elected to lead small groups of six members each.

An interview with GATE student, Sothea. Here she opens up about her life and the toll poverty has taken on her well being and that of her family. And yet, she is hopeful. We uncover within her a staunch determination to escape the drudgery of her circumstances as well as a strong belief that education is her way out.

Consoling Through Counseling helps to provide trauma therapy, social assistance, and small business grants to survivors of human trafficking, sexual abuse and domestic violence residing in a women’s shelter in rural Cambodia. 15-year-old Srey Tuich is one of these children, now off the streets and receiving care.

Our Getting Well program constructs water wells that serve entire villages in the drought-prone regions of rural Cambodia. Here's an update from the field from our Country Representative, Raksmey Var.
